I know we could all use an escape. I’m ready to travel, to see live music, to go eat in a restaurant without fear. Luckily for me, London Fashion Week (LFW) provided an artistic escape I was not expecting. Make no mistake: if NYFW was contemplating the death of minimalism, LFW was the nail in the coffin. Read on to study up on all the major trends I’m noticing for Autumn/Winter 2021.
Dance, Dance

I was surprised to see ballet inspired collections ruling the runway this season. Ruffles and volume ruled in Molly Goddard’s show, paired with arts n crafts style knits to offset the sweetness. In addition to ruffles, feathers also took flight in Erdem’s collection. It featured classic feathered skirts, as well as feathered prints, with lace-up platform shoes, reminiscent of point shoes. Simone Rocha included stunning ruffles of tulle as well as rosettes of every size. These feminine details were perfectly paired with oversized tent dresses, cropped leather jackets, platform combat boots, and simple body harnesses. Truly memorizing.
Pastels and Bold Brights? For Fall? Kinda groundbreaking.

Another trend this season was pastel and bold colors. Following the ballet inspired themes, Erdem added in pastel florals, but kept the fall feeling in luxurious brocade. Although palmer/harding’s collection was definitely more on the spectrum of neutral, soft cosmetic hues were also featured. I especially love the idea of pastels paired with a rich, chocolate brown or charcoal grey. You could also spot bold brights. Mark Fast’s collection seemed to feature nearly every color and every hue under the sun, leaving something for everyone. Vivienne Westwood also got in on the fun, injecting bold pinks and blues, uplifting a very pattern focused collection.
Go Ahead, Be Dramatic

The one theme we couldn’t avoid is pure drama. With the desire for a world outside our own four walls, you can’t help but dream of excess. No mater how you like your drama, there was something for everyone. Into edgy distressing and monochromatic looks made of stunning silk? Art School has you covered. Looking to wear nothing but head-to-toe sequins? Check out Halpern. If that’s not your thing they also featured all over leopard looks complete with red fringe knee-high boots. Think Cruella De Ville in the twenty-first century. Finally, if you’re looking for something comforting yet bold, check out Vivienne Westwood. The pattern mixing complete with bold colors had me feeling right at home.
Which fashion trends do you think you’ll add to your Fall wardrobe? Is there anything not represented you wish would have been included? I can’t wait to hear what you think!
Love,
